More Consultants Required Following The Best Connection's Acquisition of SMS Agencies

The Best Connection employment group has consolidated its position as the country's No. 1 Driving Agency following the acquisition of rival organisation, SMS Agencies. The acquisition has led to the expansion of the company's Hanley-based branch in Stoke on Trent where the team are looking to take on additional experienced recruitment consultants to help meet the increased demand for temporary labour.

SMS Agencies, which underwent a management buy-in/buy-out 16 months ago, currently employs 130 staff across 32 branches in the UK and has an annual turnover of £24 million. The business was established by three ex-lorry drivers in 1991 to address the growing demand for temporary drivers and has since expanded to incorporate industrial recruitment which accounts for 10% of its turnover. With its headquarters located in Crawley, West Sussex, SMS will add over 2,500 registered drivers to The Best Connection's customer base.

The Best Connection is the leading supplier of quality temporary labour to the industrial, driving and warehouse & distribution sectors throughout the UK and its Hanley-based operation has been providing recruitment solutions to businesses in Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire and Crewe for the past five years.

Andrew Sweeney, chief executive of The Best Connection, said: "The addition of SMS will further strengthen our position within the transport and logistics sector. It will also give the company greater presence in existing regions and open new opportunities in new locations.

"In those locations where the main focus has been the provision of drivers, we will introduce additional services to address the industrial and warehouse & distribution sectors."

SMS is ranked 4th largest driving agency by turnover in Recruitment International's Top 100 in 2005. The Report also placed The Best Connection as the UK's No. 1 driving agency for the 2nd consecutive year and put the company at No. 3 in the industrial sector, two positions higher than in 2004.

In 15 years The Best Connection has grown from a single office based in Birmingham to become a 59-branch UK-wide enterprise with a turnover in excess of £125 million. The company employs around 500 staff, supplies 48,000 temporary workers and services 8,500 clients. The Best Connection is currently placed 7th in a league of Europe's Top 500 job creating companies.
