The Best Connection Acquires SMS Agencies

The Best Connection employment group has consolidated its position as the country's No. 1 Driving Agency following the acquisition of rival organisation, SMS Agencies Ltd.

SMS Agencies, which underwent a management buy-in/buy-out 16 months ago, currently employs 130 staff across 32 branches in the UK and has an annual turnover of £24 million. The business was established by three ex-lorry drivers in 1991 to address the growing demand for temporary drivers and has since expanded to incorporate industrial recruitment which accounts for 10% of its turnover. With its headquarters located in Crawley, West Sussex, SMS will add over 2,500 registered drivers to The Best Connection's customer base.

Andrew Sweeney, chief executive of The Best Connection, said: "The addition of SMS will further strengthen our position within the transport and logistics sector. It will also give the company greater presence in existing regions and open new opportunities in new locations, particularly in the South West.

"In those locations where the main focus has been the provision of drivers, we will introduce additional services to address the industrial and warehouse & distribution sectors."

SMS is ranked 4th largest driving agency by turnover in Recruitment International's Top 100 in 2005. The Report also placed The Best Connection as the UK's No. 1 driving agency for the 2nd consecutive year and put the company at No. 3 in the industrial sector, two positions higher than in 2004.

Over the past two years The Best Connection increased its business by 37% to achieve a turnover of £125 million in 2005. During this time the company's regional branch network expanded by 18%, to 53 locations across the UK.
